JAKARTA - Bandai Namco Holdings Inc. (Banda Namco) announced that it has signed a strategic business alliance agreement with Sony Group Corporation (Sony), to strengthen the involvement of anime and manga fans around the world.
Through this agreement, Sony officially acquired 16 million shares of Bandai Namco owned by shareholders with a value of around 68 billion yen (Rp7.14 trillion). Thus, Sony will become a shareholder with ownership of around 2.5% of the total Bandai Namco shares in circulation.
"We are full of enthusiasm for the potential to create new entertainment by combining the strength and capabilities of Sony Group technology in various fields of entertainment with the Bandai Namco IP axis strategy," said Executive Vice President Bandai Namco Holdings Inc., Nobuhiko Momoi in his official announcement.
Historically, Bandai Namco and Sony have collaborated on various projects in areas such as games, anime, and music, and they plan to expand this collaboration to various other areas.
The two companies intend to implement new initiatives, including the expansion of works as well as products and services based on joint IPs such as anime and manga, in addition to planning and technical collaboration in experience-based entertainment.
