Officially Separated From Instagram, Threads Can Now Exchange Messages Via DM

JAKARTA After two years of launch, Threads finally has a Direct Messenger (DM) feature to exchange messages. The launch of this feature marks a major step in the separation of Threads and Instagram.

Since its first launch, Threads has been designed as an integrated microblog platform with Instagram. Therefore, there are many features that are not available on Threads and users must access them on Instagram.

One feature that was deliberately not presented in Threads was DM. Initially, Instagram didn't want to separate the Threads function completely so they didn't develop DM. However, in the end they launched the feature.

DM is the most requested feature, so developers decide to integrate it directly into the app. This feature will deepen interactions between users with security guaranteed directly by Meta.

"Message services are protected by our privacy standards, account protection, and strong security infrastructure," said the company that oversees Instagram and Threads, quoted on Wednesday, July 2. "We prioritize security."

One of the efforts to strengthen Threads security is its age setting. Meta says that it only provides DM for users aged 18 years and over. Users must follow each other or be followed to use DM.

In addition to strengthening security, Threads also offers some interesting features. One of them is Message Control so that users can decide who can send messages, even from people they don't follow.

Threads will also offer group chats such as platform X, formerly known as Twitter. In addition, users will also get an Entry Box Filter to help users find and respond to important messages quickly.

"This interesting increase will soon be coming to the message, making it easier to strengthen existing connections and build new connections in Threads," said Meta. All of these features are being launched in stages.
