JAKARTA Foxconn, a Taiwanese manufacturing company, plans to strengthen Apple's manufacturing strategy in India. In addition to producing iPhones, the company will also produce casings in India.
Reporting from the Economic Times, Foxconn is setting up a new unit in the ESR Industrial Park, precisely in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu. This unit was specially created to produce metal iPhone casings.
It is not known when this unit was built. However, sources familiar with this stated that the Foxconn cassing creation unit in India will be built in the same area as facilities for the assembly of iPhone screen modules.
This is the first time Foxconn will focus on making casings in India. Previously, the company only focused on assembling iPhones at the Sriperumbudur or AirPods facilities at Hyderabad facilities.

The only company that officially produces Apple casings in India is Tata Electronics. After Foxconn plunged into the chain of cassing, the iPhone protector will be produced by two companies at once.
Foxconn's move is believed to increase the percentage of iPhone production value locally, but the impact will be very small. The reason is, iPhone casings usually only cover two to three percent of the total raw material of the device.
Counterpoint Research Industry analysts, launching from 9to5mac, also predict that Foxconn's total added value in India will remain at ten percent. This means that the creation of casings in India will not drastically increase the production value.
