Apple Vision Pro Now Supports More Types Of Media

JAKARTA - Apple introduced Apple Projected Media Profile (APMP), a new media format on Vision 26 that expands the type of video that can be played on Apple Vision Pro. With this update, the content library for headsets is growing, making the device more attractive to consumers.

One of the advantages of Apple Vision Pro is the ability to enjoy content that cannot be watched on regular screens. To date, this headset has supported 2D, 3D content, spatial videos, and Apple Immersive Videos. But now, Apple is adding support for more video formats.

Announced at the WWDC 25 Platforms State of the Union,visionOS 26 presents a new feature called Apple Projected Media Profile (APMP). With APMP, visionOS can now play content in 180 degrees, 360 degrees, and a wide viewpoint.

The addition of APMP allows more videos produced by various third-party cameras such as Canon, GoPro, and Insta360 to be screened on visionOS. APMP uses metadata-based processes that automatically produce metadata from certain cameras, including correcting fisheye lens distortions so that videos can be screened properly on the headset.

Apple also states that APMP content can be embedded on websites or played through apps, opening up opportunities for streaming services to adopt them.

The main goal of APMP is to increase the choice of content for Apple Vision Pro users and Apple headsets in the future. With the support of various new formats, including those that can be recorded using regular consumer devices, Apple expands the potential of available content.

Even videos that already exist in 180 degrees or 360 degrees format, such as those that have been available on YouTube for a long time, can now be used in Apple's ecosystem even though they do not meet Apple Immersive Video standards.

With this approach, old videos can be adjusted to be compatible with Apple Vision Pro and Apple's upcoming headsets. It also provides opportunities for content owners to enter Apple's ecosystem without having to reproduce content according to Apple Immersive Video standards.

As a result, Apple gets a stream of more and more content, which makes the next generation of headsets even more interesting because there are more and more things for users to enjoy.
