Vivo X Fold 5 Holds Ice To -20°C, Still Functions Normally Without Declining Performance

JAKARTA Vivo has again teased its fans by announcing that its newest foldable phone, the Vivo X Fold 5, will soon be launched in China.

In a recent official statement, Vivo Product Manager, Han Boxiao, revealed that this device brings major improvements in terms of durability, resilience to extreme temperatures, as well as protection against water and dust.

According to Han Boxiao, the Vivo X Fold 5 is the world's first major foldable phone to pocket three layers of protection:

- IPX9 certification for water resistance,

- IP5X certification for dust resistance, and

- Protection against extreme temperatures, including direct testing under -20$C conditions.

In internal laboratory tests, this device remains functioning normally despite being in extreme cold temperature for a long time, without any decline in performance.

Second Generation Semi-Dense Battery

One of the main innovations of the X Fold 5 is the use of second generation semi-solid battery technology. Different from its predecessor, the solid electrolyte layer is now expanded from a positive pole to a negative pole, allowing power supply to remain stable even as temperature reaches -30$C. This is a big leap over the previous generation used in the Vivo X Fold 3.

The X Fold 5 offers IPX8 water protection, which can withstand up to a depth of 3 meters, and is claimed to be capable of handling high-pressure heat sprays that approach IPX9 standards, an achievement never before in the world of folding phones.

Technically, the Vivo X Fold 5 is rumored to be bringing high-end specifications:

- 6.53 inches LTPO outer screen and 8.03 inches AMOLED main screen, both support 120Hz refresh rate,

- Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset

- 16GB RAM and 512GB internal storage,

- A large 6,000mAh battery with 90W fast charging support and 30W wireless charging.

For camera business, Vivo collaborates with Zeiss as a partner for camera system development, consisting of:

- 50MP main camera,

- Ultra-wide camera,

- Periscope cameras with 3x optical zoom,

- As well as two 32MP selfie cameras, each on the outside and inside screens.

The Vivo X Fold 5 is scheduled to launch on the Chinese market in July 2025, and will reportedly also be available globally in the same month. If all these predictions are correct, the X Fold 5 could be the most resilient and sophisticated foldable phone ever released to date, combining cutting-edge technology with incredible durability.
