JAKARTA Internet Archive, a website that provides free entertainment, is blocked by the Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi). This blocking is done because the platform provides prohibited content.
According to the Director General of Digital Space Supervision of the Ministry of Communication and Industry, Alexander Sabar, the Internet Archive provides content containing online gambling (judol) and pornography. Both of these contents have violated the Electronic Information and Transactions Law (UU ITE).
The platform with the address archive.org was blocked after Komdigi gave a warning letter several times. Alexander said that the letter they sent was not responded well to by the Internet Archive management.
"This step is not just a blocking, but also not taken rashly. We have tried to communicate with the Internet Archive through official letters several times, but did not receive an adequate response," Alexander said, quoted on Saturday, March 31, 2025.

Alexander also admitted that the Internet Archive has a lot of useful and useful content, but the harmful content in it cannot be ignored. The judol content and pornography in it are classified as serious violations according to Alexander.
"We recognize the Internet Archive value as a digital archive, but that value cannot be used as a shield."
"Our digital space should not be a destructive field of content," said Alexander.
In addition to harmful content, the Internet Archive also contains content that has the potential to violate copyright. The reason is, the website archives millions of books, films, music, and software that are still protected by intellectual property.
"Indonesia has a Copyright Law. We are also responsible for protecting the national creative industry from digital piracy."
"If there are books or films made by the nation's children that are archived without permission, of course it will harm our creators. The state cannot be silent," said Alexander.
It should be noted that this blocking is temporary. The Internet Archive needs to clean up content that violates the ITE Law and strengthen the platform moderation system first so that its blocking ends.
