Telegram CEO Pavel Durov Banned From Leaving France Without Official Permit

JAKARTA - The French government banned Telegram CEO Pavel Durov from leaving the country without official permission. This order follows Durov's arrest in France in August 2024 on charges of illegal activity on Telegram.

Durov often wants to travel business to the US over investment funds. But according to the Paris prosecutor's office to POLITICO, "on the grounds that the overseas trip does not appear important or justified".

In March, Durov was granted permission to travel to the United Arab Emirates, where he defended his citizenship.

Following the CEO's arrest, Telegram said that they comply with EU laws, including the Digital Services Act, and that " THEIR moderation is within industry standards and continues to be improved."

As proof of the improvement of the sustainable platform, Telegram decided to provide the user's IP address and phone number in response to a legal request in September 2024.

The messaging platform then partnered with the International Watch Foundation in December 2024 to use their tools, to block links to CSAM on Telegram.

Meanwhile, Telegram continues to be committed to making its platform a free place for all users to express their voices, despite political issues.

Previously, Durov said that the Western European Government contacted Telegram, and asked it to silence conservative voices in Romania ahead of the presidential election.

I reject raw. Telegram will not limit the freedom of Romanian users or block their political channels," Durov wrote on his official channel.

According to him, everyone has free speech and elections that are fair or not. And the Romanian people deserve both, said Durov.
