JAKARTA WhatsApp is developing a new feature called Private Processing. Optional in nature, this feature is developed so that users can interact with Meta AI without fear of its security.
This is a high-level privacy feature according to Meta. The company that oversees WhatsApp explains that Private Processing is a computational infrastructure with a secret concept built on Trusted Execution Environment (TEE).
While using this feature, users can take advantage of Meta AI as usual. Users can summarize incoming messages on WhatsApp that have not been read or received writing suggestions. All these actions will be kept secret from WhatsApp or Meta.
"Private Processing will allow users to take advantage of advanced AI features, while maintaining WhatsApp's core privacy promises, ensuring no one but you and the person you talk to can access or share your personal messages, even Meta or WhatsApp," WhatsApp explained.
This latest AI feature puts forward three things, namely optionality, transparency, and complete control for users. When this feature is available, Meta ensures that all processing is confidential and that privacy and security guarantees can be audited by the public.
Private Processing is still in the development stage and WhatsApp is still checking its system to avoid unwanted bugs. The plan, this feature will be released in the coming weeks.
"Private Processing creates a secure cloud environment where AI models can analyze and process data without describing it to unauthorized parties," Meta said.
