JAKARTA TikTok launched AMBER Alert, an early warning system displayed to search for missing children. The system showed good results during testing so TikTok released its features in the US.

This feature has been tested since August last year. During four months of testing in Texas, AMBER Alerts has been viewed more than 20 million times by its users. In addition, this feature has contributed to child search efforts in its immediate area.

Thanks to AMBER Alerts on TikTok, the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children (NCMEC) website has been visited 2.5 million times. This data shows that online early warnings really help the search.

Therefore, TikTok partnered with NCMEC in expanding the early warning system to America, to 170 million users. AMBER Alert will be displayed on the accounts of people around where their child disappeared.

"This feature brings important and up-to-date information directly to people's For You feed to raise awareness about missing children by utilizing the power of the US TikTok community," TikTok said in a statement, quoted on Friday, March 21.

From the view shared by TikTok, AMBER Alert will appear on the user feed with the caption 'AMBER Alert in your area'. Users will see photos of missing children and detailed information such as how old their children are when they disappear.

TikTok also displays other information such as the year its child disappeared and the characteristics of the child. If the child has been missing for several years, TikTok will display an approximate photo of the current age.

Below it, users can see more detailed information about the child. If there is information that TikTok users know, they can call 911 by tapping the button at the bottom of the screen.
