JAKARTA Google Assistant, a virtual assistant who has been downloaded more than a billion times on Android, will eventually enter the list of abandoned apps. This app will die by the end of this year.

Google says Android users are now more interested in using Gemini. In fact, there are millions of people who have switched to the big language model (LLM) and not a few users have said Gemini is better than Google Assistant.

Therefore, in the coming months, Google will encourage more users to switch to Gemini. This is done because they will completely close the Google Assistant app.

"By the end of this year, classic Google Assistant will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices or available for new downloads in mobile app stores," Google said.

Google also said that they would make sure all of its devices got Gemini, from tablets, cars, to wearable devices like watches.

Google will also add Gemini support to home devices, such as smart speakers to smart TV. This expansion will continue for several months. If it has not been fully expanded, Google will not stop Google Assistant.

"We continue to focus on improving Gemini's daily experience quality, especially for those who rely on Google Assistant."

"We've updated the app to support the most requested features," Google explained.
