JAKARTA Alibaba, an e-commerce giant from China, confirmed that they have officially cooperated with Apple. In accordance with the agreement, Alibaba will present the AI feature to the iPhone in China.
This statement was delivered directly by Alibaba Group Chairman, Joe Tsai, when he was present at the World Governments Summit in Dubai. This confirmation makes Alibaba's share price reach its highest point in the last three years, according to a 9to5mac report.
Tsai explained that Apple is very careful in choosing partners providing Artificial Intelligence (AI) in China. The Alibaba leader also revealed that Apple had contacted several companies, but Alibaba was finally elected.
"Apple is very selective. They spoke with a number of companies in China and in the end, they chose to do business with us," Tsai said, quoted on Friday, February 14.
Tsai added that Apple wants to present AI which is localized to iPhones distributed in China. In localizing this AI feature, Apple will rely on Alibaba's AI Qwen model which is considered in accordance with local government preferences.
Tsai, or Apple, has not disclosed when Apple Intelligence will be available in China. Most likely, iPhone users in the country will have to wait some time because Alibaba needs to localize its features.
Once available on the Chinese iPhone, Apple believes that smartphone sales in the country will again increase. In other words, Apple believes that their sales are getting worse because Apple Intelligence, which is the main selling point of the year, is not available in China.
