JAKARTA - Recently Shopee Express couriers reportedly went on strike because their wages were lowered from the previous amount. The couriers also asked for social security demands for them.

Shopee itself revealed that wages for couriers who deliver packages are priced at Rp 2,213 per package. The price is considered in accordance with the rules and market prices.

according to Trian Yuserma as Secretary General of the Association of Express, Postal, Logistics Companies of Indonesia (Asperindo) said that the package delivery industry needs manpower to deliver packages to the intended address. If the couriers strike, it will have an impact on the company and the shipping industry.

"There are certainly strikes there are obstacles to smooth delivery," Trian said as quoted from CNBC Indonesia, Tuesday, April 13.

He also said that Shopee's relationship with couriers is only a partnership and not a permanent employee. Therefore, the cooperation process will be different in terms of legality and the existence of contracts that have been agreed. However, if there is a decrease in wages per package, then the company must announce it to the couriers.

"Partnership, if the partner is not suitable he has the right to stop cooperation, but shopee express case has not seen the details of the cause," said Trian.

Trian also revealed that there is a main obligation underlying the delivery service industry, namely the company must take care of the postal operator's license. That jam, the company should also be able to expand its network.

According to him, since 5 days ago, Shopee Express couriers in jabodetabek area broke down because wages have been lowered from Rp 5,000 per package, to Rp 3,500 per package, then in early April decreased again to Rp 1,500 per package. Shopee Express couriers do not get minimun wages as well as social security.
