With 3,147 Patents, Huawei Proposes A Futuristic Edge Design

JAKARTA - Although Huawei is still struggling with its smartphone business due to pressure from US sanctions, the Chinese company will continue to work on innovative designs for its smartphones in the future.

Today, (January 12), according to the LetsGoDigital report, CNIPA (China's National Intellectual Property Administration) has officially issued a patent in the form of 7 product sketches and 2 color renderings that show interesting things.

Several months ago, as reported by Research Snipers, the Chinese technology giant filed a new patent for a smartphone equipped with an under-display selfie camera along with a secondary screen.

Earlier in May 2020, the company filed a design patent with CNIPA in the form of a futuristic screen edge and a design for four zoom cameras on the back. And today, the patent has been issued.

When viewed from the patent sketch above, Huawei managed to place a thin screen on the top bezel of the screen. The purpose of this futuristic small screen is to display basic information such as time, status and network signal, as well as all other basic information.

Placing all the important information on the screen offers more screen space to be used for multimedia needs. For example, when playing media such as videos or movies, this information can still be viewed without having to scroll down or go to home.

Another interesting thing about this Huawei patent is the absence of a front camera or a pop-up camera mechanism. So, it's very likely that the company will place the selfie camera underneath the screen itself.

Unfortunately, more details regarding this device are not yet known, but the sketch also reveals a sizable camera module on the back.

At this time, it is not known whether the company is actually working on such a device, so stay tuned for further developments.

With the many patents filed by Huawei to date, the Chinese company is the company that filed the most patents throughout the year until 2020.

According to data processed by Katadata (H / t Statista), Huawei is also listed as the company that filed the most patents for fifth-generation (5G) technology globally. A total of 3,147 patent applications have been filed by Huawei.

In second place, namely Samsung and ZTE, with 2,795 and 2,561 patent applications, respectively. Furthermore, namely LG and Nokia with 2,300 and 2,149 patent applications.

In addition, according to Braintologi, as of October 2020, Huawei has reportedly filed 8,607 patents according to database provider IncoPat. This achievement is a very big achievement for China considering that Huawei is subject to US sanctions related to its trade business.
