JAKARTA – Public blockchain platform Zilliqa (ZIL) is reportedly launching the web3 game console as part of an effort to reach out to gamers to get into web3. However, this console is only in the prototype phase.

This is the result of Zilliqa's collaboration with Xborg, the next generation Esports company that uses blockchain technology. In addition, the web3 game console will be equipped with mining and crypto wallet features. Both parties plan to release the web3 game console at the end of 2023.

“Playing web3 games should feel no different than playing Web2 games. The Web3's native game console, with its native wallet, is a major step towards mass adoption of Web3 games," said Xborg founder Louis Regis.

Furthermore, Zilliwa explained that "onboarding gamers into blockchain games has become a problem because of the challenges of setting up a Web3 wallet as a non-crypto native." The team believes that this issue has created a “split” in the gaming community.

The launch of the console is intended for gamers who are new to web3. The device will also come with exclusive access to Zilliqa games, crypto mining features, a game center, and a crypto wallet built into the console.

"After announcing our first game at Gamescom, we've had a tremendous response from the gaming community, and we're very happy to say that's just the beginning," said Valentin Cobelea, Head of Game Technology at Zilliqa.

The console is also equipped with HDMI and Display Port as well as 4 x USB3 ports, 2 x USB2 ports, ethernet connection, 1 x 3.5mm headphone port, and 1 x USB-C port. Even so, both parties have not provided any leaks regarding what games can be accessed through the console.

Zilliqa and Xborg announced that consumers will be able to pre-order the console in Q1 2023

Zilliqa and Xborg announced that consumers will be able to pre-order the console in Q1 2023, with beta testing starting in October 2022.

As a side note, Zilliqa was launched in 2017 as a high throughput public blockchain platform designed to scale to thousands of transactions per second.

“As blockchain technology evolves, our efforts are centered around streamlining the efficiency, trustworthiness and transparency of Web 3.0. A web3 gaming console with mining capabilities will be released in early 2023 to usher in new users into the blockchain gaming space,” reads the announcement from Zilliqa.
