JAKARTA – Snapchat's parent company, Snap Inc, will halt the development of the flying selfie drone, the Pixy, in the future. This was first reported by the Wall Street Journal, on Thursday, August 18 citing people familiar with the matter.

The Pixy, which costs $230, will continue to be sold in its current iteration, according to the report.

The news comes nearly four months after the Santa Monica, California-based company unveiled a pocket-sized camera, which can fly a few feet above its users to take photos and videos. But Snap declined to comment on the WSJ report.

Rising costs and other economic recessions have forced companies to limit their marketing spending, to the detriment of online companies that rely on advertising such as Snap Inc, Meta Platform parent of Facebook, Twitter Inc, and Pinterest Inc.

Last month, Snap warned of "very challenging conditions" due to the current economic turmoil and increased competition after reporting disappointing results in their earnings.

The company, which has been hit hard by privacy changes made to iPhones by Apple Inc, also said it would significantly slow down hiring, investing in its advertising business and finding new sources of revenue as part of its belt-tightening efforts.
