JAKARTA - It was claimed that there was a dispute between Activision Blizzard and the Chinese game giant, NetEase, causing news that the two companies were suspending the World of Warcraft mobile game.

According to IGN, the canceled game project codenamed "Neptune" was intended to be a mobile spin-off of the MMORPG World of Warcraft.

The game is said to have been in development for three years involving around 100 NetEase development staff. Until now, the exact reason why the project was discontinued is not known.

However, there are reports that Blizzard and NetEase canceled the game due to disagreements over payment arrangements for the project.

In response to the rumours, Blizzard spokesman Andrew Reynolds spoke to The Verge, and said that they still have a very successful relationship with NetEase.

"We continue to have a very successful relationship with NetEase, and it is absolutely wrong to suggest that there has been a financial dispute," Reynolds said in a statement.

In addition, Blizzard and NetEase have been partners for 14 years, since 2008. NetEase and Blizzard jointly created Diablo Immortal, publishing Blizzard titles such as Hearthstone and World of Warcraft in China.

When it was last reported, Diablo Immortal had grossed over $100 million in global player spend on the App Store and Google Play since its launch.
