JAKARTA - Meta is reportedly testing a new streaming platform for influencers called "Super".

Like other streaming services, Super will broadcast live to be able to interact with its fans and earn revenue.

According to a Meta spokesperson to Business Insider, Meta has been secretly developing and testing Super on a number of influencers for two years, starting in 2020.

Currently, the company is also reported to have paid influencers who have done a live broadcast for 30 minutes, from 200 to 3.000 US dollars (IDR 2.9 - IDR 44 million).

“Super is a small, stand-alone experiment being built by New Product Experiments (NPE) and currently being tested with a small group of content creators,” a Meta spokesperson told TechCrunch via email.

Apparently, this platform will work much like Twitch. Super operates with a tier system, where viewers must subscribe if they want to access the features provided to the channel. Subscribers can also tip their favorite creators during the broadcast.

Currently, Super is being tested by less than 100 content creators, including tech influencer Andru Edwards and TikTok artist Vienna Skye.

For now, a Meta spokesperson said that the new Super can be used on the web only. The company also confirms that the revenue and tips that creators generate will be entirely pocketed by themselves.

This news comes after Meta decided to stop the Live Shopping feature starting on October 1. At that time, the company said it would focus on Reels.

Live streaming services are indeed very popular in Asia, especially in China, as reported by TechCrunch. Companies are competing to provide a good live broadcast experience for their users.

Currently, Meta is still in the early testing stage for the Super platform, and there will likely be changes according to the feedback provided by testers.
