JAKARTA - Riot Games has confirmed that its upcoming 2D fighting game codenamed "Project L" is planned for release as a free-to-play game, or can be played for free.

This announcement was made directly by Project L executive producer Tom Cannon on Twitter as an update on the development of the game which was actually shared last November.

Cannon said that his team has received positive responses from several people since the release of its first gameplay.

With the thought "We want you to be able to play no matter where, what your skills and how much money you spend" Cannon finally decided to make Project L a free-to-play game.

In the same video post, Cannon also reveals that the team is currently working on the core game mechanics work, and that most teams have moved on to features like competitive play and social systems, or designing champions.

One of the characters featured for Project L is lllaoi. Illaoi was released in League of Legends almost seven years ago.

In League of Legends, Illaoi uses an artifact called the Eye of God to rip the soul from his opponent's body. Meanwhile, Illaoi in Project L is a "strong and charismatic spiritual leader".

Project L probably won't be releasing any time soon. But Cannon promises to provide more details about the 2D fighting game this year.
