JAKARTA - Responding to complaints from users who often face bullying, Spotify has finally launched a new feature to block unwanted people.

Before the feature rolled out, users had no control over who could see their listening activity and public playlists.

However, users can actually make requests to Spotify's customer support team to ask them to block certain people. But this takes a lot of time, and not a few users know if the feature is available.

With the new changes, users can block someone by simply visiting their user profile and looking for the Block User option in the three dots menu at the top. After doing this, that person will not be able to access the listening activity or even view the profile page of the user who has blocked it.

This is a feature Spotify users have been waiting for, some of whom have been asking since 2013. in June this year.

According to users this is no small problem. Comments on Spotify's community forum reveal that some people have experienced mental health issues as a result of harassment and even threats of domestic violence on the platform.

In 2018, Buzzfeed News conducted an in-depth report on Spotify's abuse, alleging that users were stalked and harassed through their listening activity. At the time, Spotify updated the request for the blocking feature, but they had no immediate plans to add it to the service.

Even after the petition on Change.org garnered nearly 20,000 signatures, the streaming provider still needed nearly three more years to act on a longstanding request. But now users need not worry anymore, because the feature will be available to all users this week.
