Blue Origin auctioned the fourth seat to an anonymous bidder who paid $28 million for the opportunity. However, they had a scheduling conflict and it was Daemen, who secured the tickets at auction for the New Shepard crewed flight. Daemen's ticket was paid for by his father, Joes Daemen, who is the CEO of the Dutch private equity firm Somerset Capital Partners.

Another record set with this flight was Jeff Bezos' first brother to go into space together, Mark flying in a suborbital spacecraft at the same time.
