JAKARTA - Google makes it easier for users to find information from just one photo by presenting Google Lens. Now, Lens is not only available on mobile, but desktop.

Google Lens is an AI-powered technology that uses deep machine learning to not only detect objects in images, but also understand them and offer actions such as scanning, translation, shopping, and more.

Lens was one of Google's biggest service announcements of 2017, and a Pixel exclusive feature when the phone launched. As part of a series of updates, Google has revealed that Lens will be available for Chrome on desktop in the coming months.

Quoting Engadget, Thursday, September 30, how to use Lens is quite easy, users only need to right-click from the website, select to search with Lens and select the part of the page they want to find out. After that, the user will get results related to the highlighted content. Lens can be helpful if the user is trying to identify a new animal or jacket.

Apart from that, there are several improvements coming to the mobile version of Lens. An update in early 2022 will allow users to ask questions after taking photos. If users want to know how to repair a part on a bicycle, then get results even if they don't know the name of that bicycle part.

Meanwhile, the Google Lens app for iPhone, will allow users to search for products within images. Possibly, with this new capability, Google plans to promote Google Shopping services.

This feature allows users to buy clothes or bicycle parts if they can identify them. Even so, the expansion of these features could make Lens more useful as a general search tool, not just for special circumstances.
