JAKARTA - The police have arrested the perpetrator of the break-in of personal data belonging to social media activist Denny Siregar. FPH actors are known to be former outsourced employees and served as customer service at Telkomsel.

This act of indulging one's personal data to social media is usually referred to as Doxing. As explained by cybersecurity expert from Vaksincom, Alfons Tanujaya, the practice of Doxing refers to collecting someone's personal information to be distributed to the public without the owner's consent.

"The goal is clear to attack the victim, spit out someone's data on social media is usually aimed at public figures with negative goals and harms the victim. This is known as Doxing," Alfons told VOI some time ago.

Doxing or doxxing comes from a language popular among hackers which refers to the word "document" or "dox". This term first appeared in the 90's when a hacker got the idea of "collecting documents" containing pieces of important personal information of his competitors. The hacker intends to reveal all the opponent's information with the aim of dropping because of revenge.

In this case, the perpetrator's motive for breaking into the data was because he had been bullied by Denny Siregar's followers. On this basis, the perpetrator broke into data with the aim of exposing the victim's information so as to threaten privacy online.

Alfons also highlighted the data security carried out by Telkomsel. This is because actors who are outsourcing employees at GraPARI can access their customers' personal data.

"It should be a data manager (cellular operator) that secures data well and limits access to the data," he added.

According to Alfons, the misuse of customer information data is included in the realm of law and must be handled by the appropriate authorities. He believes that Telkomsel's steps are correct by reporting this case to the police.

"When it comes to legal issues, it should be resolved according to the rule of law. The distribution of consumer data is a serious violation and must be severely punished because the data belongs to the card holder and no one has the right to disseminate the information," said Alfons.
