JAKARTA - Electronic Arts has postponed the worldwide launch of "Battlefield 2042" by one month to November 19, blaming the impact of the pandemic on game developers, a videogame maker's source announced on Wednesday, September 15.

The company says the COVID-19 pandemic has created an unforeseen challenge for game developers in building the next generation of Battlefield, causing launch delays.

"With the ongoing conditions that do not allow that to happen safely, and with all the hard work the team is putting in from home, we felt it was important to take the extra time to make the vision of Battlefield 2042 a reality for our players," a company source said in a statement. Reuters.

EA, whose shares fell 6% at the close amid rumors that its Battlefield game would be delayed, said it did not expect to see the financial impact of the delay and reiterated its net ordering guidance for fiscal year 2022.

In August, the company had said it expected annual net orders to be around $7.40 billion.

The creators of "Apex Legends" have become the winners of the pandemic, benefiting from more people spending time and money playing games while they stay indoors. EA's own stock is up more than 33% over the past year.

Demand for video games is still rising, as data from research firm NPD shows, showing that videogame sales in the US hit a record 4.4 billion US dollars (Rp 62.6 trillion) in August.

However, in anticipation of a downturn from the high levels of the pandemic, the company has placed its bets on new mobile games by acquiring companies such as Glu Mobile, UK-based Codemasters and Playdemic Ltd.
