Epic Games Offers New Deal With Apple On Fornite Game Launch In South Korea

JAKARTA - The creators of the game "Fortnite", Epic Games has asked iPhone maker, Apple, to restore the Fortnite developer account and intends to re-release the popular game on iOS in South Korea while offering payments for Epic and Apple side by side.

"Epic intends to re-release Fortnite on iOS in Korea offering Epic payments and Apple payments side-by-side in accordance with the new Korean law," he said.

Legal experts and developers around the world are awaiting judgment in the antitrust case that Epic brought against Apple in US courts.

Epic filed a case last year after implementing its own in-app payment system on "Fortnite" to avoid commissions for Apple. Meanwhile, Apple told Epic that the move violated its rules and removed the game from the App Store.

Last week, South Korea's parliament approved a bill that would ban operators of major app stores, including Apple, from forcing software developers to use their payment systems. This, effectively stops them from charging commissions on in-app purchases.

Two days later, Apple said it would let apps like Netflix provide links to their websites for payments from users directly. But Apple did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Reuters about the Epic Games offering.
