JAKARTA - Apple has reportedly struck a deal with Japanese regulators, allowing reader app developers to link to their own websites to manage user accounts. The changes will take effect in early 2022.

The deal comes after the Japan Fair Trade Commission (JFTC) forced Apple to change its policies on reader apps like Netflix, Spotify, Audible and Dropbox. It is known, the application provides content that can be purchased or subscriptions to digital magazines, newspapers, books, audio, music and video.

“We have great respect for the Japan Fair Trade Commission and appreciate the work we have done together, which will help reader app developers make it easier for users to set up and manage their apps and services, while protecting their privacy and safeguarding their privacy. Trust me," said App Store supervisor Phil Schiller.

Compiled from TechCrunch, Thursday, September 2, before the changes take effect next year, Apple will continue to update its guidelines and review process for users of reader apps to ensure they become a better marketplace for users and developers. However, this change will not apply to game developers, who are the biggest money-making category for Apple in its App Store.

Previously quoted from Nikkei Asia, Apple has also relaxed App Store rules that have banned apps such as Netflix from providing customers with links to create subscription accounts, in order to cut commissions for Apple's in-app purchases.

This is the second concession for regulators and companies in less than a week as Apple continues to face legal, regulatory and legislative challenges to the App Store, which is the core of its $53.8 billion services segment.

However, Apple will still prohibit developers from embedding other payments in apps, such as Epic Games' in-game Fortnite, Spotify Technology and Match Group Inc.

Because Apple's revenue or commission is quite large between 15 percent to 30 percent of every in-app purchase. Last week, Apple also ended a ban on developers notifying users in emails outside of apps about payment alternatives.
