Xiaomi Starts Leaving The "Mi" Name On Upcoming Devices

JAKARTA - The giant mobile phone manufacturer Xiaomi has recently continued to show its achievements by successfully beating Apple's sales in the global smartphone rankings.

Xiaomi is more widely known for its smartphones, smartwatches, smart TVs and other products that are offered from the middle class to flagships, and has used the name 'Mi' to start some of its products for about 10 years.

However, according to a report by XDA Developers quoted from Gizmochina, Wednesday, August 25, the company is rumored to be starting to leave 'Mi' from the next product name. This change has started with the Xiaomi Mix 4 which was released a few weeks ago, and will continue with the naming of the next product.

Since 2011 when Xiaomi launched its first phone, Mi 1. Since then they have grown rapidly. This is one of the first Xiaomi products to start using the 'Mi' name. It is known, Mi 1 was the flagship phone at the time, and thus gave birth to the company's tradition of presenting innovative and cutting-edge products in the high-end segment.

“Starting Q3 2021, the Xiaomi 'Mi' product series will be renamed to “Xiaomi”. This change will unify our global brand presence and close the perception gap between the brand and its products. This change may take some time to be implemented in all regions," said a Xiaomi spokesperson.

The spokesman also explained, with the introduction of the new brand identity, two different product series will be under the parent brand. Xiaomi products represent the pinnacle of technology and offer a premium experience.

"Meanwhile, Redmi products bring major innovations at a more affordable price and are aimed at a younger audience. This differentiation is also reflected in our updated logo, with the Xiaomi and Redmi logo types under the parent brand logo," he added.
