JAKARTA - Facebook has just launched a feature to transfer users' personal data to other platforms. Dubbed Transfer Your Information (TYI), this feature actually existed before, but Facebook is just developing it again.

Back in 2018, several big tech companies like Facebook, Microsoft, Twitter, and Google teamed up to launch an open source Data Transfer Project (DTP). The goal is to make it easier for users to transfer their data across services and platforms.

For this reason, as proclaimed by Neowin, Tuesday, August 10, Facebook announced the TYI feature that makes it easy to export notes, posts, media content to other platforms and several new additional features.

Facebook says they have been rebuilding TYI in recent months. This time the company is simplifying the user experience, which is why the entire User Interface (UI) of social media has been revamped recently to be more intuitive.

Photobucket and Google Calendar have also been added as two new destinations for exporting user data. They can also export Facebook Event data.

In addition, the social media giant owned by Mark Zuckerberg has introduced more transparency when it comes to displaying the status of each transfer. This means that it is now easier to retry the transfer if it fails for some reason.

Multiple simultaneous transfers to the same destination can now be initiated and more filters have been added, so people have more granular control over what data they want to transfer.

While Facebook is also currently working with developers and other companies to add new destinations, where data can be transferred securely, the company is also investigating with government and regulatory authorities about who should be responsible for data transferred across platforms.
