JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Information Technology (Kominfo) will gradually stop broadcasting analog TV throughout Indonesia and switch to digital TV. The term is known as Analog Switch Off (ASO). The stage will begin on August 17, 2021, and finally the final stage on November 2, 2022.

"The cessation of phase one analog broadcasts is no later than August 17, 2021. All analog television broadcasts [in Indonesia] will be stopped no later than November 2, 2022," said the Ministry of Communication and Information.

The rules regarding ASO are regulated in the Minister of Communication and Informatics Regulation Number 6 of 2021 concerning Broadcasting. The hope is that the people in the country can catch digital TV broadcasts. For those who do not have a digital TV, you can use analog TV and only need to add a Set Top Box (STB) device. These enhancements can help TV get digital TV broadcasts.

STB is a digital TV broadcast receiver that can be connected to a television set. People can buy these tools at a price of 150 thousand rupiah, for one STB.

This digital TV broadcast is not only clearer and better, with stereo sound it can also reach many television channels, all of which already use digital channels. Even people can still use subscription cable tv to enjoy broadcasts from various tvs in the world.

The first phase of the ASO program covers several regions in Indonesia. Among them are;
