JAKARTA - Google has launched the biggest Doodle game ever, Doodle Champion Island. This launch is to celebrate the start of the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The game starts when you click on the doodle on the search homepage, and takes you to an island where a sports festival is taking place.

The main character is called Lucky, a cat character who sets out to explore the island and complete all the games and side quests incorporated. Doodle Champion Island is filled with seven sports mini-games, legendary opponents, and dozens of daring side missions.

Lucky, the main character in the game Doodle Champion Island, must defeat every sports champion to collect the seven holy scrolls and complete the extra hidden challenges on Champion Island.

Sports champions include Tengu for Table Tennis, Tanuki for Skateboarding, Yoichi for Archery, The Oni for Rugby, Princess Otohime for Artistic Swimming, Fukuro for Climbing, and The Kijimuna for Marathon. The game can be played using the arrow keys on the keyboard and the space bar for any action.

The cutscenes and character animations for Doodle Champion Island Games were created by Japan-based animation studio STUDIO4°C. The company claims that they identify stories and folklore from across the country with very recognizable characters.

Then, they relate the folklore and characters to each of the sporting events in the game and choose each event champion from that unique story. Team mascots and city characters such as Kappa, Yatagarasu, lion dance, are also chosen based on their popularity in Japan.

The reach of Doodle Champion Island is shown via an interactive map by Google, and appears to be accessible to most regions around the world. More than 200 countries are participating in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. The 17-day event will see nations competing in a variety of sports, all vying for the gold medal.

In addition to playing the game Doodle Champion Island on the search homepage, users can also play it on the Doodle blog. This game will be available to play long after it is removed from the homepage as well.
