JAKARTA - Google's parent company, Alphabet inc has begun to reopen its office activities amid the COVID-19 pandemic. This technology giant also enforces some of its employees to no longer work, aka work from home.
The decision was taken as a new step from the norm amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Where Google gradually office activities, from 6 July to next September.
"We will have strict health protocols, besides that we will also take security measures to ensure social distancing and sanitation guidelines are met, so that the office will look and feel different than when you left (for WFH)," said Google CEO Sudar. Pichai also explained how his company will still pay its employees who do work form home. Google will also pay reimbursements from employee expenses of up to US $ 1,000 or around Rp. 14.7 million.
"This allowance will be given to Google employees who are forced to buy additional office equipment, to support work while at home," wrote Pichai.
At least the efforts that Pichai proposes show how companies are adapting to the midst of the coronavirus pandemic. Google also promised to implement health protocols for some employees who still have to go to work.
According to Pichai, the option to return to work in the office will be voluntary. Even so, employees who are not required to work in the office and want to come are still allowed.
Apart from Google, Facebook and Twitter also allow most of their employees not to work at all. Only those in the technical IT department are still required to work in offices, even if the COVID-19 pandemic ends later.
