NASA's New Boss Is Eager To Find UFOs In Space

JAKARTA - Bill Nelson, the new boss of the US Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) plans to learn more about unidentified flying objects (UFOs). Because he does not believe UFOs are evidence of extraterrestrials visiting Earth.

The former Florida senator and spaceflight veteran admits it's not yet clear what this, often invisible, high-speed object looks like.

"I would know if it was an alien. But, it's too early to rule out that possibility," said Nelson as quoted by CNN International, Sunday, June 6.

The Pentagon report late last month also confirmed what Nelson said about UFOs. Even though US intelligence officials did not find at all that the UFO is an alien spacecraft.

Even so the researchers did not give up on uncovering the existence of the mysterious object used by the aliens.

"We don't know if it's an extraterrestrial. We don't know if it's an enemy. We don't know if it's an optical phenomenon. We don't think it's an optical phenomenon because of the characteristics described by the Navy jet pilot. The point is we want to know." said Nelson.

Despite Nelson's strong will, NASA press secretary Jackie McGuinness said Nelson had not yet formed a formal task force to begin investigating UFOs. On the one hand, McGuinness admits that UFO research is often negatively associated with conspiracy theories.

"There really isn't a lot of data and scientists have to be free to follow these guidelines, and it shouldn't be stigmatized. It's a very interesting phenomenon and Americans are obviously interested, so if scientists want to investigate, they should do it," McGuinness said.

It is known, the existence of UFOs has long been an attraction in the US and other countries. However, it is the US that often reports that they have found evidence of alien life, from NASA, non-profit organizations, and the American army itself.
