JAKARTA - Spotify has introduced a new feature called Artist Profile Protection. This feature was launched so that musicians can review songs that they want to release before being shown on their profile page.
This feature is still in development and is only available in a limited beta version. By introducing this feature, Spotify wants to protect the identity of the artist from metadata errors or attempts by other parties who want to piggyback on the popularity of their name.
On the Spotify for Artists page, musicians can approve or reject each music submission that lists their name. Only works that have received approval will appear on the profile, enter the statistics, and be recommended to listeners.
This feature is considered very useful for musicians who have a common stage name or are often exposed to wrong target releases. With this system, the artist's account statistics and Release Radar algorithm remain accurate from irrelevant content.
Spotify also provides an 'Artist Key' in the form of a unique code that can be shared with trusted labels or distributors. Music sent with this code will automatically be approved for broadcast without having to go through a manual review process.
If an artist decides to refuse the release of a song, the song will not be included in their profile on Spotify. However, the work may still appear on other streaming services so that the artist must still coordinate with the distributor.
During the beta testing period, Spotify will collect feedback from users to refine its system. The final version of this identity protection feature is planned to be launched to music creators around the world.
