JAKARTA - Plan International Indonesia expressed its support for the issuance of the Minister of Communication and Digital Regulation (Permen Komdigi) Number 9 of 2026 concerning the governance of the implementation of electronic systems in child protection.

In an official letter delivered to the Minister of Communication and Digital, Meutya Hafid, the foundation which works in the field of fulfilling children's rights and equality for girls considers this policy to be a concrete step to protect Indonesian children from various risks in the digital space.

"Plan Indonesia is called upon to support the implementation of this regulation as well as provide input so that child protection policies in the digital space are stronger," said Executive Director of Plan International Indonesia, Dini Widiastuti.

However, child protection on the internet cannot be done by the government alone. Dini stated the need for collaboration between various parties so that the digital ecosystem is safer for children.

Plan International Indonesia also provided some input to strengthen the implementation of this policy. Among them is to encourage the creation of a healthy and child-friendly internet ecosystem, through the improvement of digital literacy and the strengthening of the role of parents, schools, and communities.

In addition, it is also necessary to strengthen education and assistance services for children who experience negative impacts from the use of social media, such as exposure to pornography, mental health problems, and psychosocial issues.

Dini emphasized that these steps are important so that Indonesian children can grow and develop optimally.

"Hopefully, children can grow physically, mentally, spiritually, cognitively, and socially well, so that they are able to learn and participate safely, meaningfully, and with dignity in the digital space," he said.
