JAKARTA - Chinese smartphone manufacturer Vivo continues to reveal details of its latest flagship camera, the Vivo X300 Ultra, ahead of its official launch this month. The device is confirmed to carry a 50-megapixel ultra-wide camera with a large sensor and one mysterious additional sensor that has not been fully revealed.
The latest information was conveyed by Vivo product manager Han Boxiao through a series of uploads on the Weibo social media platform. In his latest update, Boxiao revealed that the X300 Ultra will use the Sony LYTIA-818 sensor for the ultra-wide camera.
The sensor has a resolution of 50 megapixels with a focal length of 14mm, which is designed to capture wide landscapes or group photos. With a sensor size of 1/1.28 inches, Vivo claims this component to be one of the largest ultra-wide sensors ever mounted on a smartphone.
The larger sensor allows the camera to capture more light, potentially improving the quality of images and videos in low light conditions.
According to Boxiao, the ultra-wide camera also has an important role in video recording because it helps produce more stable footage. On the X300 Ultra, the stabilization system is said to have increased from the previous generation's standard CIPA 5.0 to CIPA 6.0.
This improvement is expected to produce more stable videos, even when recording in moving conditions.
In addition to the ultra-wide camera, Vivo also gives clues to the existence of an additional camera sensor hidden in the camera module of the device. In the image shared, the sensor is covered by a sunglasses emoji so that the details are not yet clearly visible.
Boxiao only mentioned that the new sensor has "unusual" capabilities and will be explained further in the next update. A number of previous reports said the sensor is likely a 5-megapixel multispectral lens used to improve color accuracy.
In the main camera sector, the X300 Ultra is also confirmed to use the latest Sony LYTIA-901 sensor as part of the device's main camera system.
The sensor is paired with a 200-megapixel camera with a 1/1.12-inch sensor size and a 35mm focal length designed to provide a more natural perspective in street photography.
For zoom capabilities, this device is said to use a fifth-generation periscope telephoto camera with a 200-megapixel resolution based on the Samsung HP0 sensor. This camera is equipped with optical stabilization up to 3 degrees which is claimed to be able to produce gimbal-equivalent stability when zooming.
Meanwhile, on the front, this device is expected to use a 50-megapixel selfie camera with autofocus support.
Vivo also prepares additional accessories for content creators, in the form of a 400mm teleconverter kit that allows the device to reach up to 17 times optical zoom. The company is also said to be releasing another teleconverter variant that is more practical for everyday use.
Vivo X300 Ultra is scheduled to launch in China this month before it is expected to enter the global market in the second quarter of 2026.
