JAKARTA - Apple's latest laptop, the MacBook Neo, has started to show initial benchmark results that show performance close to the iPhone 16 Pro phone. The test results also show that its performance can be compared to the Apple M1 chip previously used on the MacBook Air.

According to a report written by Wesley Hilliard on March 5, 2026, the MacBook Neo uses the A18 Pro processor that was previously introduced for the iPhone 16 Pro. The use of this mobile-class chip is one way for Apple to reduce the price of the device so that it is more affordable.

The initial benchmark results found by MacRumors show a device specification that is almost identical to the iPhone 16 Pro, but with the identification of the Mac 17.5 device.

The MacBook Neo was designed from the start to reach the target price of 599 US dollars (Rp10 million). This device is also positioned as a direct replacement for the MacBook Air with the M1 chip that was previously sold at a discount of around 699 US dollars in retail such as Walmart.

In testing using the Geekbench benchmark application, the MacBook Neo recorded a score of around 3,461 for single-core and 8,668 for multi-core. For comparison, the MacBook Pro with the M1 chip recorded a score of around 2,235 for single-core and 7,901 for multi-core.

For graphics testing using Metal, the MacBook Air with M1 is slightly superior with a score of 31,912, while the MacBook Pro with A18 Pro scored 31,286.

Even though there is a small difference in the test numbers, the performance of the two devices is considered very similar. Even when compared to a configuration that uses the M series GPU and 16GB RAM, the results are almost identical so that most users are likely not to feel a significant performance difference in everyday use.

The current MacBook Air is available for pre-order and is scheduled to start shipping to customers on March 11. The device starts at $599 with 256GB of storage and comes with Touch ID. Apple also provides an option to increase storage up to 512GB for an additional cost of around $100.
