Microsoft plans to reduce Copilot across the Windows 11 application. This is because the integration of the Artificial Intelligence (AI) assistant has been criticized by users.
The company will remove the Copilot chatbot integration from built-in apps such as Notepad and Paint. This is aimed at returning the user experience to a more conventional form without interference from AI.
Many users complain about the presence of this AI assistant due to privacy issues. Moreover, features such as Copilot Vision and Windows Recall can access user personal data so that the presence of AI features in Windows 11 sparks debate.
Recall is the feature with the most rejection because it can take screenshots periodically. In line with this reduction in Copilot integration, Microsoft will likely overhaul and replace the Recall feature.
The company is also trying to find a safer way for Recall to remain useful without violating privacy limits. In addition to the AI problem, Microsoft is also addressing various technical problems in its latest operating system (OS) update.
Many users have reported that they have trouble turning off their PCs and losing data because the device restarts automatically. Responding to the complaint, Microsoft admitted that its software still has many shortcomings.
"This year you'll see us focus on addressing customer issues: improving system performance, reliability, and the overall Windows experience," said Pavan Davuluri, President of Windows and Devices at Microsoft, launching from PC Mag on Tuesday, February 3.
This shift in focus is expected to be able to restore user confidence in the Windows 11 ecosystem. Microsoft now prioritizes the basic quality of their OS rather than forcing the use of AI in every built-in application.
