JAKARTA - Instagram is developing a feature that many users have been waiting for. This feature allows users to remove themselves from a person's Close Friends list.

This Nearby Friends feature was first introduced in 2018 which focuses on Stories. With this feature, users can set who they consider as their closest people to see their limited Stories.

Usually, this feature is used to avoid many people seeing Stories that are considered important or damaging to their account branding. However, for years, there has been no option to remove yourself from the list.

Now, there is a little hope for users who are annoyed by someone's Close Friends Stories. Launching from TechCrunch, the feature to remove a private account from someone's Close Friends list is still being developed in the form of a prototype.

This prototype was first discovered by a reverse engineering expert, Alessandro Paluzzi, through the application's internal code. The finding shows a special button for users who want to leave a person's Nearby Friends list.

In a screenshot shared by Paluzzi on the platform X, previously known as Twitter, Meta warns users when they want to leave the Close Friends list. The warning states that users will no longer see content with that special label, unless the account owner adds them back to the list.

Currently, the feature is still in the early development stage and has not been widely tested by the public. Until now, Instagram has not announced a specific date regarding the release of this feature for all users.

Instagram's move follows its competitor, Snapchat, which also has a feature for sharing private Stories. However, the platform already provides the ability for users who want to get out of someone's private Stories.
