JAKARTA - OpenAI CEO Sam Altman responded to the harsh comments from X platform owner Elon Musk regarding ChatGPT, which was considered too loose in maintaining user security.

In his post some time ago, Altman emphasized that managing the artificial intelligence system used by almost one billion people is a big and problematic responsibility.

The statement came after Musk wrote a warning to the public not to let their closest people use ChatGPT, referring to news that mentioned the alleged connection between ChatGPT and 9 deaths of its users.

Musk's statement then sparked a wide debate on social media regarding the safety and psychological impact of AI use.

"Sometimes you complain that ChatGPT is too strict, then in other cases you say it's too relaxed. Almost a billion people use it and some of them are in a very fragile mental state," wrote Altaman.

Altman said OpenAI is often in a state of confusion. On the one hand, the company is criticized for being too restrictive of ChatGPT's features.

On the other hand, they are also accused of being too lax when cases involving users in a vulnerable mental state occur.

However, he emphasized that OpenAI continues to strive to find a balance between protecting vulnerable users and ensuring that the technology remains beneficial to the wider community.

"We will continue to do our best to improve it. This is a tragic and complex situation, and it deserves to be treated with full respect," he continued.

In his post, Altman also touched on other technologies such as Tesla's Autopilot system, which he said had been involved in more than 50 traffic accident deaths.

"In fact, more than 50 people have been reported dead in accidents related to Autopilot. I've only tried it once, and my first impression is that the technology is not safe enough to be released," he wrote.
