JAKARTA - The Indonesia Cyber Security Forum (ICSF) has recorded a number of cases of sexual exploitation starting from the chat, voice call, and private message features in the game.
Chairman and Founder of ICSF Ardi Sutedja, stated that online game rooms such as Roblox, Free Fire, Mobile Legends, and Minecraft, are now not only a means of entertainment, but also a social space that carries serious risks to the security and safety of the younger generation.
ICSF revealed that in general, the modus operandi used by the perpetrators is to use a false identity and pretend to be the same age as their opponent. They also often offer virtual gifts to build emotional closeness with the victim.
The danger is, after trust is formed, it will be used by cyber criminals to carry out grooming, exploitation, and online sexual violence.
"In the condition of addiction to games, children often ignore the limits of privacy. This opens the door for digital predators who disguise themselves as playmates," said Ardi in his statement, quoted by InfoPublik.
Seeing this fact, ICSF encourages the need for a "factory reset" of child protection policies in the digital space, through the strengthening of digital literacy from an early age, the active involvement of parents and schools, and tightening regulations on online game platforms.
The government is also asked to strengthen cooperation with platform providers to ensure that reporting mechanisms, blocking of harmful content, and child data protection are effective.
ICSF emphasized that without strong intervention from the state, digital platforms, and families, the online gaming space has the potential to turn from a playground into a dangerous labyrinth for young generations.
