JAKARTA - In addition to introducing the Personal Intelligence feature, Google this week officially launched a functional update on their artificial intelligence application, Gemini. The update is in the form of a button titled "Answer now" which is designed to provide more flexibility for users who want an instant response without having to wait for the long reasoning process of the model.

This feature appears specifically for users who activate the high-level model, namely Gemini 3 Pro or Thinking model (Gemini 3 Flash). When users ask a question, a "Answer now" button will appear right next to the status indicator that is spinning. Interestingly, this feature is not available on the Fast model (Gemini 3 Flash) which was designed for speed from the start.

When the button is tapped, the Gemini app will provide a brief confirmation that the system is in the process of "Skipping in-depth thinking" and the answer will be displayed shortly thereafter. This step is very useful for users who feel that their questions are quite simple and do not require the layered analysis that usually takes longer on the Thinking model.

Based on the information found in the overflow menu of the three-dot menu at the end of each response, the system confirms that Gemini still uses the user's choice model (Pro or Thinking) to answer the question, instead of lowering or replacing its engine to the Fast model. This ensures that the language quality and knowledge base remain in line with the standard of the selected model, even without the process of deep reasoning.

"Skip" Button Replacement and Quota Separation

Google confirmed this week that the presence of "Answer now" officially replaces the previous "Skip" button function. In addition to this interface change, Google also announced a new policy in the form of separating usage limits between the Thinking model and the Pro model, which gives users more control over managing their daily quotas.

This update is observed to have been rolled out globally today, both for free Gemini account users and paid customers (Gemini Advanced). This feature is available on various platforms ranging from Android devices, iOS - although in some regions it may still use the old term - to the web version.

This move is seen as Google's attempt to balance between the sophistication of AI logic and the need for user time efficiency, especially at a time when competition for AI models that are able to "think" (such as the o1 model from OpenAI) is getting more intense in the market.
