JAKARTA - OpenAI said it had reached a multi-year deal with Cerebras, an artificial intelligence (AI) chipmaker, to strengthen its cloud or computing infrastructure.

This deal, valued at more than 10 billion US dollars (Rp168 trillion), will supply 750 megawatts of computing power by 2028. Through this partnership, OpenAI wants to accelerate the response time of its services for users around the world.

According to OpenAI, Cerebras' system is capable of processing complex instructions. That way, executions that previously took a long time can be made more instantaneous.

Cerebras uses a special AI chip technology that is claimed to have higher processing speeds than regular GPU-based systems. The company has stolen the attention of the global technology industry since ChatGPT became popular in late 2022.

OpenAI CEO Sam Altman had long been an investor in Cerebras before this major deal was announced. This strategic move can strengthen OpenAI's position in leading the AI technology competition.

"Cerebras adds a specialized low-latency inference solution to our platform, which means faster responses and more natural interactions," said Sachin Katti of OpenAI, launching from TechCrunch on Thursday, January 15.

Cerebras' computing power integration will begin gradually starting this year to support large-scale workloads. This support will strengthen OpenAI's foundation so that the scale of its AI services can also be larger.
