Minister of Communication and Information Emphasizes the Crucial Role of Digital Infrastructure in Disaster Management

JAKARTA - Minister of Communication and Digital Meutya Hafid emphasized the importance of digital infrastructure resilience in disaster management.

Considering the disasters that occurred in Aceh and Sumatra, according to him, the role of infrastructure is very crucial, especially to ensure the safety of residents and the speed of the government's response when physical access is cut off.

"This disaster reminds us all that connectivity and information are basic needs. Digital infrastructure is the last line of defense when physical access is cut off," said the Golkar Party Deputy General Secretary in an official statement.

He also emphasized that the resilience or resilience of digital infrastructure must be a national priority amid the increasing risk of disasters due to climate change.

For this reason, he added, cross-sector collaboration is an important factor in accelerating the recovery of telecommunications networks, involving telecommunications operators, the government, and related stakeholders.

"No one party can work alone. Quick and solid collaboration is the key to maintaining national connectivity," he said.

Meutya invited the entire telematics ecosystem to continue to maintain cohesiveness and discipline in strategy in building a strong, safe, and equitable digital Indonesia.

Until now, the Ministry of Communication and Digital continues to play an active role together with volunteers and telecommunications operators to restore communication services in the affected areas.

Meutya also appreciated the contribution of volunteers in Aceh, North Sumatra, and West Sumatra who have been actively supporting the recovery and assistance of the community since the beginning of the emergency response.

Because according to him, public communication that is empathetic is an important part in a crisis situation, especially to maintain access to information for the public.
