US Canada Reveals Brickstorm Malware Linked To Chinese Hackers

JAKARTA - The United States and Canada cybersecurity agencies uncovered hacking activity linked to a group affiliated with China, which targets government entities and information technology infrastructure.

Acting director of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Agency, Utama Gottumukkala, said that this hack was a new type of hack that infiltrated sensitive networks and implanted malware.

Thus, this attack allows hackers to have long-term access, cause disruptions, and sabotage related systems.

According to Reuters, based on the US government's warning, the Chinese-affiliated hackers have often targeted telecommunications companies and other sensitive organizations in recent years.

In October 2025, several sources linked the attack on US cybersecurity firm F5 to the same group.

In a recent report, hackers are said to have used a malware called Brickstorm to attack government services and information technology entities.

The report is based on eight Brickstorm samples found in targeted organizations.

After successfully logging into the network, they can steal login credentials, access sensitive information, and potentially take full control of the target system

However, Liu Pengyu, a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington, denied this and said by email that his government had nothing to do with the attack.

He also rejected the statement that was considered 'irresponsible,' and confirmed that there was no factual evidence given regarding the allegations.
