JAKARTA OpenAI seems to want to earn other income from its chatbots. The reason is, the Artificial Intelligence (AI) company is secretly testing the addition of advertisements in ChatGPT.
This was revealed in the code line found by an X account called Tibor Blaho. The account, as reported by Android Authority, shows a screenshot of the beta version 1,2025,329 containing rows of codes related to advertising.
The row explicitly includes mentions such as search ads, advertising features, and bazaar content. This leak was also reinforced by the appearance of advertisements in screenshots shared by another X user named Yuchen Jin.
The screenshot shows an advertisement that says 'find fitness classes' and 'connect Peloton' with a water bottle image. This ad is located at the bottom of the reply generated by chatbots.

This evidence shows that OpenAI does test ads under user interactions with chatbots. This shows the company is looking for ways to generate revenue from its massive free user base.
OpenAI's decision did not conflict with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's statement some time ago. Previously, the OpenAI leader stated in a podcast that they were not against ad embedding on the ChatGPT platform.
Altman also showed interest in adding advertisements to his chatbot application. However, at that time Altman stated that the company was still in the process of looking for the best method to add to the platform.
