Nvidia Makes Anti Mining Feature So GPU Not Ludes Diborong Crypto Miners

Nvidia reduces its graphics card capabilities to avoid being squandered by crypto miners (The Verge)

JAKARTA – Nvidia is implementing a hash rate restriction of its graphics card GPU in anticipation of borong action by crypto miners. These restrictions are applied to a number of graphics cards namely GeForce RTX 3080, RTX 3070, and RTX 3060 Ti.

Previously, they had applied such trimmings to geforce RTX 3060 graphics cards. The plan is that the graphics card whose hash rate capability is trimmed will be labeled with the inscription "Lite Hash Rate" (LHR).

Matt Wuebbling as Head marketing geforce Nvidia revealed that it believes the implementation of anti-mining features will help cut the price of graphics cards that are increasingly expensive. The price increase is caused by the scarcity of GPUs due to being wasted by crypto miners.

"Hash rate restrictions only apply to new production graphics cards with the LHR label, not to purchased ones," Wuebbling said in his official statement posted on Nvidia's official website.

The most banter graphics card from Nvidia today is the GeForce RTX 3090. The GPU does not even get hash rate restrictions. Because, the graphics card model is priced high so it is not so popular for crypto miners.

According to TheVerge report, Nvidia has accidentally broken into the RTX 3060 hash rate restrictions, through beta drivers.

In addition, to avoid the scarcity of graphics cards for the general consumer, Nvidia launched a special chip for cryptocurrency mining. The chip is called CMP or Cryptocurrency Mining Processor.

With the presence of CMP, Nvidia expects the supply of GPUs for general consumption remains available and the price returns to normal.

On the other hand, the Ethereum Foundation as a cryptocurrency technology developer plans to switch from Proof of Work (PoW) to Proof of Stake (PoS). It is claimed to be able to reduce dependence on GPU usage and reduce energy consumption.

Ethereum itself revealed the switch to PoS is claimed to be able to reduce energy consumption on the Ethereum network by 99.95 percent. This shift is an attempt to move to more environmentally friendly technology.
