Elon Musk Vs Netflix: LGBT Cartoons Are In The Spotlight, Komdigi Ensures Content Is Supervised

JAKARTA - The leading film and serial streaming platform, Netflix, is in the middle of a conversation, after SpaceX billionaire and SpaceX owner Elon Musk called for a campaign to cancel subscriptions from the platform.

The campaign, which is widely called "cancel Netflix", was triggered by a cartoon on Netflix entitled Dead End: Paranormal Park, which he says promotes pro-transgender content for children.

The cartoon features a gay and transgender teenager named Barney, as well as his girlfriend Norma Khan, a bisexual girl who is also autistic. This cartoon follows Barney's story of escaping to a ghost home to avoid his grandmother who refused his identity.

Responding to content containing elements of LGBT and broadcast on major platforms, the Ministry of Communication and Digital said the government continues to monitor all content from Electronic System Operators (PSE) operating in Indonesia.

"Yes, of course, we monitor all PSE. Especially for children, we are trying to protect children for that," said Director General of Digital Space Supervision of the Ministry of Communication and Industry, Alexander Sabar when met in Jakarta on Thursday, October 2.

However, Alex emphasized that Komdigi had not received any information or reports related to the content. "There is no information yet," he said when asked about the LGBT content report.

Alex also explained that if later there were reports of entry related to the content, as had been done before, Komdigi would see and call the PSE in question to ask for clarification.

"What we have done so far, if there is a complaint coming in, we will see, we will call to confirm. Because this OTT service is a bit different from the user-generated content PSE. So we are still monitoring it because its position is still the organizer of the electronic system," he concluded.
