Qualcomm Confirms New Flagship Chipset Named Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5

JAKARTA - Qualcomm officially announced that its newest flagship chipset will not be named Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, but Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5. This decision confirms rumors that had previously circulated.

According to Qualcomm, the use of the name "Gen 5" is considered more reasonable because it marks the fifth generation of the Snapdragon 8 series.

Since we adopted a single digit naming system and a new visual identity, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 represents the fifth generation of the Snapdragon 8 flagship mobile platform. With this naming, we not only emphasize the leadership of the platform, but also simplify the understanding of consumers regarding our product roadmap, "explained Qualcomm.

If pulled back, the previous four generations were Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, 8 Gen 2, 8 Gen 3, and Snapdragon 8 Elite (which is now ranked as the fourth generation).

From a technical point of view, the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 will carry a second-generation Oryon custom CPU, consisting of two 4.61GHz prime cores and six core performances of up to 3.63GHz. For the graphics sector, this chipset is combined with a 1.2GHz Adreno GPU.

The benchmark leak shows a score of between 4.20 and 4.40 million points on AnTu Tu v11, making it one of the strongest mobile chipsets today.

Qualcomm is scheduled to inaugurate the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 on the Snapdragon Summit September 22.

Not wanting to miss it, Xiaomi immediately confirmed that it would launch its first flagship smartphone with the chipset later this month. The device will also mark the rebranding from the Xiaomi 16 Series to the Xiaomi 17 Series.
