JAKARTA - Xiaomi has confirmed that its latest flagship line will be called the Xiaomi 17 series, missing the "16" figure to adapt to Apple's iPhone 17 naming.

Xiaomi executive Lu Weibing has publicly stated that the move aims to position the Chinese company is aligned with Apple, with a model named Xiaomi 17, 17 Pro, and 17 Pro Max, which will launch in China later this month.

Xiaomi decided not to use the Xiaomi 16 name and switch to Xiaomi 17. This announcement was made by Lu Weibing, a Xiaomi executive. He didn't even hide the fact that Apple was the reason behind this change.

In his Weibo post, China's social network, Lu Weibing said that Xiaomi would "align itself" with the iPhone, five years after Xiaomi announced their "premium strategy". Lu Weibing praised Apple, but also stated that Xiaomi is ready to compete directly with the tech giant.

Most likely, Xiaomi is doing this because it doesn't want to be considered lagging behind Apple. If the company launches the Xiaomi 16 series this series will be in the same generation as the iPhone 17, but it could be considered a "loss" by the market.
