JAKARTA - The Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has opened registration for the 1.4 GHz frequency auction for Fixed Wireless Access, which is expected to provide affordable 100 Mbps internet service, in line with the government's target.

However, the question now is, can the government's plan to provide affordable 100 Mbps internet for Rp 100,000?

In response, Arif Angga, Chairman of the Indonesian Internet Service Providers Association (APJII), assessed that this depends entirely on market demand.

"In our industry, we don't set upper and lower price limits, nor do we set speeds based on speed. So, it's up to the market, so it's up to each operator," Arif said at the Digital Transformation Summit 2025 (DTS) held by Selular Media Network on Tuesday, August 26.

In line with APJII, ZTE Indonesia confirmed that there are no significant technological obstacles. Iman Hirawadi, Principal Telecom Architect and Business Consultant at ZTE Indonesia, stated that his company is ready to support needs, as long as there is market demand.

"From a vendor perspective, if someone buys it, we'll make it. So, technologically, there's no issue. We will support it as long as our customers require a 1.4 GHz TDD (Time Division Duplex)-based product," he explained.

Meanwhile, Telkomsel admitted that it is still conducting a more in-depth study regarding the opportunity for this affordable high-speed internet service. He believes that if the infrastructure and ecosystem support it, it will be possible.

"So, for us, it's still in the actual research stage. As long as the infrastructure and ecosystem support it, it's not impossible. We will always comply with regulations," concluded Jockie Heruseon, VP of Corporate Strategy, Innovation, Sustainability & Marketing at Telkomsel.
