JAKARTA - OpenAI officially announced its agreement with Oracle, to develop an additional 4.5 gigawatt Stargate data center capacity in the United States.

This project is part of OpenAI's long-term vision through the Stargate's global AI infrastructure platform to bring benefits of artificial intelligence that are more equitable to society.

OpenAI said this investment would create many new jobs, accelerate American reindustrialization, and help advance US leadership in artificial intelligence (AI) technology.

"This will also encourage significant parts of the hundreds of thousands of jobs that we expect will be created from Stargate over the next few years," the company wrote in its official blog.

With this additional project, the capacity of the new Stargate data center combined with the one being developed at Abilene (Stragate I) will surpass 5 GW and run more than two million chips.

The move is also part of a commitment previously announced by OpenAI at the White House in January, which invests $500 billion to build 10 GWs of AI infrastructure in the US in four years.

Thanks to support from partners such as Oracle and SoftBank, OpenAI is optimistic that it will exceed that target.

We now expect to go beyond our initial commitment thanks to strong momentum with partners including Oracle and SoftBank, the company added.

Meanwhile, the construction of Stargate I in Abilene continues and some facilities are now in operation. Oracle began shipping its first Nvidia GB200 rack last month.

Stargate I has created thousands of jobs, and more are expected as operations expand, including specialist roles for electric technicians, equipment operators, and technicians from more than 20 states, concluded the announcement.
